I want an electric light source and not mirrors. So make sure it has it's own light source. Vicki

I went cheap, and bought one from ebay with mirrors...well, it just sits in it's crate in the closet as I could not use it effectively...had to get one with a light source.

My little experience w/a mirrored microscope is that they work fine if you're outside in great sunlight, or in one of those brightly lit classrooms with a huge flourescent fixture overhead. It's nice to have that option if the expensive light in the expensive microscope goes out and it will take you a while to get another one... But then, who (besides my crazy mom!) would want to have several types of microscopes laying around?! :D I'd go w/the one that has a light any day.

Incidentally, I also have a telescope made by Tasco--not highly impressed. But then again, that could very easily be user malfunction and not anything to do w/the telescope! :)

You can put a flashlight on the mirror if you have to, but yea, I'd go for one with it's own light.

My eyes are not very good anymore either so I better go with one with its own light source. Thanks everyone for your help.
