Is any one on here in Texas getting any of your bucks collected?

Geoff and Nancy are going to be in Mt. Pleasant the day after Thanksgiving, but they are going to have to get back to me in a few days on any other stops that might be closer to me.
I'm suppose to have him cleaned out. My Alpine girls are bred. I don't want him breeding the boers. So how am I suppose to clean him out before collection?

It's not as if they are only going to ejaculate him once and that's it.......he can ejaculate several times, process the ejaculate with the most swimmers, you only want a minimal amount processed anyway?
Cleaning him out...I would think that would have to do alot more with a buck not used that year...Vicki

I'm not sure but he said that about a week before they collect him, he needs to be cleaned out 4 of 5 times so there will be lots of strong viable sperm. Someone on here had a young buck collected recently that got over a hundred straws out of him. Tracy was that you? What did you do to get your bucks ready?

I just had buck collection done last Sat. Done by Cam Faircloth... Megabucks Semen. He has a standard 'what to do' before collection.
No Bo-Se for 60 days before collection..(think it was that.. may be more)
Very good minerals..he recommends Sweet Licks free choice.
No breeding at least a week before collection. If you 'have' to breed a doe then.. only let him jump once, meaning no pen breeding.
Trim the hair around 'you know where' so as not to contaminate the process.
Learned something this time.. My older buck.. which is 7 yo.. collected.. but the semen was not strong enough to go through the process. He said that the semen he collected was made 6 weeks ago. Asked if the buck was sick then.. etc etc. Thought that was interesting. Course I don't even know what I was 6 weeks ago.. much less the buck. :goat

Yep that was Aragon -- March baby, and he did 128 straws in three ejaculates! Only kept 60 tho 
Now for comparison, Baxter at the same age only did 28 straws, and we had to jump him a half dozen times to get them.
Teresa also told me with a high producer like he is, if we ever collect him again, he needs to be used for at least 6-8 ejaculates within 4 to 5 days of collection. That cleans out the dead cells.
I didn't do much to get him ready.....he had an oral dose of 1 cc of A&D the day before, and we clipped his sheath area and all around clean.

This is interesting, I have always heard just the opposite. Andy Purcella (AAAI) recommended giving your usual dosage of BOSE 6 weeks prior to collection, but dividing the dosage so if you usually give lets say 3CC, give 1.5cc at 6 weeks and the other 1.5 at 3 weeks prior.Narrow Chance said:

How many people in our area would be interested in getting your bucks collected. I wouldn't mind hosting a collection, but they have to be guaranteed that they collect a minimum of 10 bucks to make it a collection stop. So we would have to be committed to being here so we don't waste their time. We would need to know quickly to set it up as they are planning on being in Texas in just a few weeks. It doesn't just have to be dairy bucks, it could be your boers also. I have a boer buck that I could add to the list so that is 2 bucks. Ray you have 3, so that is 5. Anybody else?
