Hi, hoping I can get a little information about precocious udders. A friend of mine has a Snubian doeling (sire Nubian, dam Saanen) that I am interested in buying. The doeling is just a few days, maybe a week, old and has a hard udder that fills the palm of my hand. When looking at her from the rear, it's obvious that she is developing an udder. I'll try to get a pic to post next time I see her.

What does this mean for her future as a milker?
Thanks in advance for any insights/advice.

One of my doelings was born with some udder development...it faded within a couple weeks.

I would not assume anything about her future as a milker from this. I would probably ignore it. I've heard it can be due to the dam's hormone levels....in which case it should shrink after the kid is born.

  3. we've had sveral doe kids born with a small handful of udder. Beth is right, I think, just hormones and it will disappear.

Thanks for the input. She is a nice little doeling, glad to hear she probably has a bright future.
