Our goat's bag looks like it is full and the teats are large, but when we milk her she is only giving around 2 cups. Do you think she could be holding her milk, or could this be something more? Thanks
When did she kid ? Is this your first year milking her ? Temp ? Cae status ? She could be congested. Milk her out massage udder apply warm compresses and milk again. Keep repeating. Patty
1/4 cc oxytocin prior to milking will let down milk but try the warm compresses and massage first also get a CAE test done on her.
Patty and Sondra have given great advice and Patty's questions deserve answers. 1st get blood drawn on this doe and get a CAE test done. Swollen and congested udder with little milk is a symptom of CAE as well as swollen joints. What a about a history of mastitis? Does the milk look like normal milk? Any blood, thick clots or strings? While waiting on the CAE test, you can use peppermint oil to stimulate blood circulation. Using warm compresses will help too. Try milking her out 3 - 4 times a day.
