I really want to do my own fecals and I saw a microscope at a local pawn shop for $50. I ddin't get it because I wasn't sure it had all I needed. In the do your own fecals in goatkeeping 101 it says that the microscope should preferably have it's own light source.

It's been awhile since I've used one - since HS! so do the have a light underneath the place you put the slide or what?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

The light source is a electric bulb that sets at the bottom of the micro (under the slide table) and shines much like a flashlight would upward.

Try to get one thats power ranges are between 40X to 400X .

A mechanical sliding table is best because you move the slide around by using knobs.......but you don't just have to have that feature to run fecals, but I find it much easier to use.
