Hello! I'm from southeast Ohio and just getting started with dairy goats. My husband and I have about 5 acres and have been here 20 years come November. We've been breeding Boer goats but the problem is that the market is super saturated here and I get too attached and can't bring myself to butcher my own goats (only because I don't 'have to'). The dairy aspect of goat raising is very appealing for the milk and milk products, and the show-bug is nibbling at me again! We currently have 9 Nigerian Dwarf goats, a grade Alpine doeling, a recorded grade dry yearling LaMancha/Toggenburg with one heck of a milk background. we still have a few percentage Boers left and I plan on keeping 2 or three that have been disbudded. I think I'd like to try milking one (who is part Nubian and Alpine) for the high butterfat content. I just became a member of ADGA and am reading my packet and trying to learn what's what in the dairy goat world. I'll be attending the ODGA conference with Roseanna (Dousthouhavemilk - who I think the world of as a friend) too and really excited about going. Any and all advice from the experienced is always greatly appreciated. My user name comes from my very best friend, my Miniature Pinscher who just turned 15 years old. His registered name is Radio Flyer, we call him Radish. He's been my constant companion for 14 years and I couldn't love him more if I'd given birth to him myself. He's been a super little farm dog too. We'll be going under the name Kidville (or Kiddville) for our farm name. (which one looks better?) Anyway, I'm looking forward to learning lots, thank you for having me! Kim Miller
