The vet called today with my test results. Evette is CAE negative. She is the nicest Nubian I have ever purchased with a well attached, beautiful udder. When she freshened, her udder was fairly hard, which I attributed to edema and have been treating by massaging with peppermint oil. Now, at 3 weeks fresh, her udder is considerably softer, but I notice that the upper portion is still firmer than the udders of my other does. Do the more show quality Nubies have firmer rear udders to keep that attachment in place? Kathie

It sounds like she just has a meaty udder. Has she ever had mastitis? Scarring can cause udder tissue to feel hard.

I wish mine would have ANYTHING in their rear udder, firm or not :) Vicki
