    Hi all,

I have a January buck that is having the same problem as the 4 year old Ober in the Viagra for bucks post, I just didn't want to hijack it so here I am. Early this year he was in rut, peeing on himself, trying to breed everything in sight. Tonite I put a lovely young lady with him, she is in standing heat, she moves her tail to be bred, he jumps up, out comes his penis and it is all but LIMP, he does very little humping, none of his moves are aggressive at all, it is like he went out of rut. He was wormed at the beginning of breeding which was September, so I plan to fecal him tomorrow. He gets grain, some say too much so I cut him back and started slowly adding alfalfa pellets, he gets free choice hay and clean water at all times, he is urinating normally. The limp thing has got me stumped, his semen is good b/c he has been checked by our semen collector.

I am going to give him Bose, fecal and worm if necessary tomorrow.

Any other suggestions...he has minerals but doesn't eat a lot of them at all, and it is the same minerals all my goats get and eat quite well.

    Thanks
    Autumn

Also, I haven't noticed any rut behavior at all, no urinating on himself, or any other lude behaviors that the rest of bucks are doing right now. He away from the girls completely while the other young buck is in a pen next to the girls, should I put him down there too. He still stinks but he hasn't been peeing on himself that i can tell.

I put my young bucks in a pen next to the big boys the month befor I use them. They can see and smell the boys but since only a huge corner post touches both fences, they can't fight with them or stick their head in their pen to get it bit off :) But even with this, I always try to give them a young doeling first to breed and simply put him in with her, to sort of learn on :) Then when I ask him to breed bigger does he already knows how.

But I will tell you I have never seen a limp penis on a buck, it can't get out of the sheath limp can it? vicki

    Autumn,
Is he peeing at all?? Could it be early Urinary Calculi? He may be in pain.

Yes it came out but he kind of just sat there but he wasn't thrusting like I thought he should. Weird actually b/c not to long ago all was fine. He is urinating normally and acting just fine.

Now I did put a 1 1/2 year old doe that he out weighs by a whole lot in with him for about 2 weeks just to see if we could get her to come into heat but she is a free martin that is now official so I am wondering if she beat up on him not likely but you never know.

    THanks

Or he could have wore himself out trying the free martin. Give him some Fortified B Complex and also realise that if you give BoSe now it may lower his sperm count. That is given 30 days prior to breeding. But to tell the truth I haven't a clue
