I have recently come across a buck offered at stud that is CAE positive. Can I get some input on the risks of breeding to him? Thank you!

I've heard the risk of transmission is very unlikely. Never the less, I wouldn't use him unless his genetics are something you need in your herd and I'd be sure to hand breed the animals. Kathie

From the studies I have looked at, the risk is very unlikely that he would transmit CAE to the doe. With that said....wouldn't it always be in the back of my mind that I took whatever that risk is. As long as there were other options around here, I would pass........but more for peace of mind, more than anything else.

Would AI from this buck pose the same risk as hand breeding?
