A 2 -week old buckling got slammed by one of the other does in the pen. He appears to have nerve damage in the spine, with spasms and severe pain. The question is whether 2 weeks is too young to give Banamine for pain and inflamation control? (post written by Roseanna's dad--she called from the barn)
I give it to them after disbudding if they seem in pain, and always if there is any swelling of the eyelids, I give a 1/2 cc.
Sherrie, You're giving a 50# dose of banamine! Not good. The dose on banamine in any age is 1/10th cc per 10#'s. It's a "by weight" drug. Kaye
I ended up giving him .2ccs, which is probably still too much. He is standing now and appears to have more control over his hind body. Thanks for the quick response.
well Kaye (tounge in cheek) thats the dosage my vet printed on the label for kids, I thought that was too High since its 1 cc per 100 lbs. that's why I "love" it when I have to go try and get somewhere with her. sigh. Sadly I'm darn near Out of benamine rarely use it, and doubt she'll sell me a bottle
:lol Then if she will only sell you a little...humor her and take it, then mark through her instructions and put 1/10th per 10#'s. At least she will sell you some. Kaye
