My LaMancha is two years old, never bred, no possible way she's pregnant. Her udder is hard, red, looks miserable. We had to hold her still and bribe her with small shards of dark chocolate just to milk about half a cup to grant her a little relief. I have no idea what to do, I know she came from a really good milk line, I've had her since she was 24hours old, she's never been near a male. I am at a loss, I don't know how to dry her off. Please help

She will need a good antibiotic infused in her teat, for a few days and possibly an injection of antibiotic or two. Do you have a decent large animal vet near you?

If not, you could get a clean 3 oz. sample of her milk in a sterile container and get it to a lab for testing. Make sure they test for antibiotic sensitivity. While you're waiting you can get some Tomorrow from the farm store and infuse the infected teat with half the syringe of medicine 2 times a day, for 3 days. Just put the tip of the applicator in the teat canal, maybe 1/4", then depress the plunger half way. Make sure she is clean and wipe her teat with the alcohol wipes that come with the medicine. Then you will get the test results back from the lab, and you will see wether or not you need to use a different antibiotic or not. She should be good, but it's always good to check and only costs a few dollars. Make sure to keep her eating and drinking, give her a shot of b complex and some probios, if she goes off feed. Take her temperature every day, especially if she goes off feed. If her temperature rises above 102.5,you'll need to take more drastic measures. Let us know how it goes!

I am very sorry for not replying. I couldn't find where I posted until today. She is doing semi alright. I cut back her feed and gave her more grass, also gave her lavender oil rubs. She has been slowly drying off. Unfortunately today I noticed her teat/nipple is extremely enlarged. Her bag isn't swollen just the whole teet. Ugh I love her, really like that she seems so willing to produce milk. I just really wish she would wait until she is actually bred. Now I need to figure out what to do about this problem. She seems to be acting like it's no big deal but honestly it looks awfully uncomfortable!

Thank you very much! I will pick some peppermint EO up asap. This week she'll be more spoiled. She's already rather spoiled but that's alright I'll spoil her even more lol.
