I have had several offers on my 4 month old does at the fair. Some are willing to wait until spring. That is very exciting. I was thinking about keeping all these does to breed as soon as they are big enough. I also had many offers for raw milk. It was very interesting.

That's great. But a couple of caveats:
IF they want to buy a kid now or reserve a spring one make sure that you get a deposit.
Also regarding raw milk sales please be sure that you are aware of your states specific laws before you sell any. It's not worth having to go to court..

It's wonderful when others show interest in your stock. It's one of the big reasons to show and have websites, it definetly helps with sales.
Not only what Ziggy has said but also, especially if you are newer, make sure you have gone over the stock you are selling...extra teats, single orifices in each teat, conformationally sound, correct bites....this sounds like basic stuff. Well it's basic stuff all to often overlooked when you have alot going on or alot of kids all born at once. Vicki

Thanks for the advice. I will give them a good looking over before I sell. The toughest part is deciding which to part with. I do know that I can not sell any raw milk for human consumption in this state but I can sell it for feeding animals. I really don't have any milk that I want to sell right now. A lady I know is selling it for $6.00 a gallon.

Some friends decided to make soap with their milk, set up a booth at the fair for that, and included an info board on their herd and goat milk. They got a list of names of people wanting to buy herd shares and spring kids and made enough money off soap sales to pay that month's mortgage, all the soap they made, and what it cost to do the booth at the fair. I'd say that was some outstanding publicity and income! I don't think they'd have come out so far ahead if they were showing animals!

That is pretty awesome. I wish they had booths in the goat barn. The vendors are in out of the way places at our fair.

I think their location really helped. The Wilson County Fair has a whole Agribusiness section that isn't show animals, but demonstrations, and value added products, and stuff like that. I hear it is the most frequented part of the fair, and they had a booth right between the two entrances. Too bad we can't legally do cheese and yogurt. I haven't started soap yet!

You will like soap. It is fun to learn something new. I just wish I had more time for my goats and their products. I should have picked a career as a goat farmer.
