Never make soap until you have run it through thesage.com or soap calc. Once you have entered your recipe you will be able to adjust it until you can determine your total weight. Your soap WILL shrink after it is cut into bars.

Where did you get this recipe? I would not follow a recipe that gave quantities in cup measurements. Look in the recipe thread stuck at the top and find the WalMart recipe. It's a good starter recipe and can be scaled back to the size batch you want to make. Just run it through a lye calculator to check the lye amount needed for your new size.

patty, I agree with the others, using a recipe by measurements is dangerous and should not be used.. you can end up with some very harsh nasty soap.. Not all cups etc are equal.. why we use scales and weights.. Barb

Please use a digital scale i learned the hard way after making 3, 4lb batches with just a measuring cup that something was wrong and had to dispose of all that hard work!!! I bought a digital scale on e-bay for $11.00 and use a stick of butter each time i start a batch to make sure it is working right. hope this helps

on your first try with soap please just use the walmart recipe then after you have that down pat replace the water with the milk I use frozen milk but you can also replace have the water with half milk and add the milk thawed when you add your oils and butters. And it is easier and no accidental burning of the milk

I would also cut the recipe using the soap calc to one pound. Then if it is messed up (walmart is a great recipe, it is hard to mess up) then you have not wasted such a large amount of ingredients.

you can fill and weigh water to figure out how much your container will hold
