Time between kids?

I have a doe that had doeling sometime today while I was at church.  She only had one and there was no afterbirth in the kidding pen that she is in.  Is there a way to tell if she is going to have another?  She had 2 last year, so I figured she would have 2 or more this year.  How long of a period can they be delayed?

How long were you away? - she may have eaten it. Time between kids varies - I have seen 10 minutes to an hour but I would not expect much more than that.

If you are really concerned you may want to feel her sides and under her belly to see if there is anything hard in there -  or if  there are some experienced goat people around you they may be able to help out.

 If she is acting normal I would just assume all is well - but call a vet or more experienced goat person if there are any abnormal signs.

Some (especially older ones in my experience) just stay real big for a while after kidding. I had one who I swore I thought was going to have triplets or quads surprise me by having a single last year.

a vet showed this to me once and that's what I was trying to explain but I didn't know how to describe it but this is an excellent explanation.

I've had a doe go a little over 4 hours between kids.  Had one.. him hawed and pawed for 4 hours.. had two more.  All alive and normal.

Maybe Tamera will chime in about the one she had this year that went the most I have ever heard.

Guess it's true what they say.. we do things slow in the south.

I tried the bounce technique and didn't feel anything hard in there.  I guess she is only having one this year.

Look at the size of the kid, now look at your hand and arm, is it bigger than the kid she just had?  No, unless you are Arnold Schwartznager....go in and do a pelvic.

I wouldn't let a doe go for an hour before making sure the next kid was in good position, actually just inserting fingers and hand into the cervic will make her start pushing again...as will letting the first kid nurse.  Vicki

yep. I COMPLETELY agree with Vicki and Sondra. Had a 1st freshener with leakage for a month... Finally kidded a 10 pound healthy buck.... I thought she was done... 1 1/2 hours later, she was screaming,...in obvious labor... went in, found a dead 15 pound doe kid... (dead and bloated)  I learned NEVER to go by what I see after THAT!
