Default Red Cell dose ? And vit. B AND pre-breeding questions...

A friend of mine has a doe that was over due for worming but has now been wormed and will get wormed when needed now that she knows more. She was wondering if red cell will be ok to give, and if so, how much and how often ?

I also have a question about fortified vit. B - i have a bottle that is about 2 yrs old and was stored in my goat box that has been in the house, and in the garage - in all sorts of weather - i don't think it ever froze, but may have got warm ( it has got into the 80s here this summer, though i'm pretty sure the garage stays cooler ) and was wondering if it is still ok to use ? I'm planning on giving it with my pre-breeding stuff - is this a good idea ? What would you dose it for for this instead of polio ? Besides BoSe and worming, anything else you would reccomend i give before breeding - i live up here in WI if that makes a difference. This is only my second real breeding season so want to do it the best i can. When would you also reccomend i do the pre-breeding things ? I plan to breed two does Sept and Oct. - the doelings will be bred Nov. - Dec.

Also, what do my bucklings need pre-breeding ? They were born March 2008.

I'm having my vet out on 9/22 for pre-breeding checks and stuff, so if i need anything rx that would be the time for me to get it. Thanks !!!

everyone gets CD/T booster shots does and bucks and BoSe 30 days prior to breeding on both bucks and does. Wormed etc. I would throw your BComplex away or use it if a goats just seems a little off but bet the potency is down now if it got too hot. I also never depend on B Complex as a way to treat polio. I get B1 Thiamin from the vet it is an RX
Red cell am just guessing her but probably an oz a day is pleanty.
OH and get some injectable CMPK from your vet to have on hand in case it is needed

There isn't a dose for redcell, especially for ruminants. In fact there is no proof that it even builds blood anymore that the liver faction is out of it and now it doesn't contain liver. It's one of those things that some use and swear buy, that others don't, that some goats love and other goats hate. Vicki

Thanks ladies ! I do have CMPK and prop. glycol and a dose of lute and dex - but from last year - are they still ok to use or should i replace them ?

I'll make sure to get everything else too :+)

With the redcell - it is safe for them though right ? so it can't hurt ?

Thanks !!!

redcell is safe in small amounts because of the molasses I don't give a whole lot at a time.

Lactated Ringers should always be on hand for emergencies.
