Default New Goat question

Hello! I am new to the forum and I have a couple of quesitons. I plan on getting some dwarf or mini milking goats (nigerians or Lamancha) sometime this spring. I am debating on getting a buck and wanted to know if there are any issues getting and keeping a buck with the doe or should I just get does and then find a buck to breed with. Someone told me if you keep the buck with the does it can make the milk taste bitter. Old wives tale or true?

Bucks can be a total pain, or they can be an asset. Until you have the time to devote to training a buck and the space to keep him separate from the does during training and kidding season, I would just wait and get 2 does, or a doe and a wether. If you do decide to get a buck, you won't have a bucky odor to the milk as long as your milking procedure and clean up is perfect. The buck will want to pee and rub his smell all over the doe, which will be in the milk, unless you clean, clean, clean.
