Default Interesting find for your 'One*Oak*Hill' La Mancha's

One rainy day I was looking at our LM Buck's ADGA pedigree (it's really nice to be able to do so much research). Following his sire One*Oak*Hill Tweed Mysaka to GS; Mac Tumble Weed's pedigree I wondered how far I could go? 1950's? 40's? 30's? 20's even? Well it's split in 1960's to experimental the Nixon's ( founder of Colorama) I kept going back to the 1940's and it ended with a goat named Toggenburg OK great right? Did some more surfing some how ended up on a site in Flat Top NC turns out writer Carl Sandberg's wife Lillian was famous for her dairy goats ( their farm is now a National Historic Site) and on that website I saw that name World Champion Toggenburg! Back at ADGA there it was.... Mac Tumble Weed is lined from World Champion Chikaming Toggenburg her daughter Jenny was a 3 gallon a day milker!! I know after 60 years there must be thousands of goats lined from her but I think it's real cool we have one right here on our farm.

Hey Dave, you should be way to busy this time of year to be surfing the genetic site! It's my winter dry period thing to do

Seriously though have you met Tim Pruitt on here? He knows more about the Nubian breed than nearly anyone, and John White, alas he does not do forums would be super cool to converse with on this subject, LaMancha's.

That's neat! I love studying all the history on Lamanchas.

Well I am dense I guess. does this mean that your LaMancha buck has Toggenburg in him?

Vickie Ive haven't talked to either as of yet but would like too.

Yes the genetic search is really nice.

Yes Sondra he has a tiny tiny bit of Togg all La Mancha's were started from something somewhere just go to ADGA and follow the pedigree back to find where yours came from you may be supprised what you may find? We recently bought 2 does from Kriscross they are 95% La Mancha and 5% Nubian I was able to have one Recorded as American La Mancha, don't hold my feet to the fire but I think it takes 13/16Th to get blue papered PB's, La Mancha's are the only breed you can do this with.

I had a prof. in college who was Carl Sandburg's neighbor in Michigan. In the '30's Sandburg received a literary award that included money. Several other artists were refusing the cash as a protest against the Spanish Civil War. Ted, my professor, asked Sandburg if he was going to refuse the money. Sandburg replied, "I can't. We need it to feed the goats."
